I was a teenager at the time... April 30 1975, I was standing on the side "duong Hau Giang" street to watch a Vietnam Marine platoon marching into the capital - single line with full gear from the battle field, the Honor men were covered with red dirt. The leader was a captain who I am still searching for. As they marched, many mothers and wives and children or relatives who were crying and pleasing them to drop the weapons and fall out. Along the street, a North army truck with their men on the truck bed with many guns pointed directly to the platoon and told the men that they were surrendered to drop weapons. These were the men in DIGNITY, INTEGRITY & HONOR ABOVE SELF The captain called for "platoon halt" and then turned to his men ordered, I couldn't remembered exact words, "Gentlemen" ("nhung nguoi anh em dong chung chi huong voi toi, mac du chung ta da dong y se song chet ben nhau nhung vi tinh thuong cua nhung than bang quyen thuoc doi ben. Toi xin cac anh em hay suy nghi lai trong vong 1 phut, anh em nao muon tro ve voi gia dinh thi cu xin tu tien roi hang ngu va nhung anh em con lai se cung toi di vao Dinh Doc Lap de duoc tu hop voi tat ca voi lenh cua Tong Thong DVM"). The captain was my hero and he always is... I just wanted one time to meet the man who showed me the true leader NO MAN was out and the platoon was continued on to their destination. "DANH DU - TO QUOC" I was marching along with them on the side walk with tear, tried to look and memorized each one of the faces of my heroes... THUY QUAN LUC CHIEN... http://www.tqlcvn.org/ I escaped from the communist and came to US 80 but not forgot those men ... I went to VMI / USMC option and still remembered them. Now mid-40, I wish to meet all those men who had impacted my young mind to thank you them for being my heroes To all those know ---
Long live USMC
